Used Gear Condition Grading System
Mint
Instruments in this category show no sign of imperfection. Mint-graded instruments have no defects and look like they just came off the assembly line. These items come with their original packaging.
An example of Mint condition is a flawless guitar, pedal, or amplifier as originally manufactured. If you are in the market for a new instrument and don't mind that it's been out of the box, this gear is for you.
Excellent
Instruments in this category show little to no wear in most areas. Excellent-graded instruments have been lightly played and may have minor finish wear that is not immediately visible. There are no problems or issues with the playability or functionality of the instrument.
A guitar with slight pick marks or an amp with a scuff are examples of Excellent-condition instruments. This gear is for you if you want a near-new instrument at a great price.
Very Good
Instruments in this category show minimal wear in most areas. Very Good-graded instruments have been lightly played and may have somewhat visible wear.
While moderate signs of use may affect cosmetic appearance, they will not impact performance or functionality. Slight buckle rash, minor scratches, or small cosmetic blemishes are examples of instruments in Very Good condition.
If you want playability and don't mind minor flaws, this gear is for you.
Good
Instruments in this category show noticeable wear in most areas. Good-graded instruments have been played often and may have apparent finish deterioration.
While moderate signs of use may affect cosmetic appearance, they will not impact performance or functionality.
A binding crack or belt buckle wear on a guitar, a dent on a pedal chassis, or road wear on an amplifier are examples of Good-condition instruments.
If you are looking for playability and can overlook the cosmetics, this gear is for you.
Fair
Instruments in this category show significant wear in most areas. Fair-graded instruments may have been refinished or altered and could have visible scratches, dents, or original accessory replacements.
These instruments work as expected in general but may need some sprucing up, as the defects may start to affect functionality.
A major cosmetic alteration to a guitar, a faulty switch on a pedal, or an amplifier producing minimal output are examples of Fair-condition instruments.
This gear is for you if you accept visible cosmetic defects and manageable structural flaws.
